Life is bigger than you. We tend to think at times that we are bigger than life. I think this is one of the biggest irony and fallacy of human thinking, to have this delusion.
We certainly can do our part. But at some level things things are simply out of our hands. Life just happens the way it has to happen. (And when I say you, the you includes me also. We are all in this shared experience of humanity together. I am not keeping a distance from you. Every you in a way is very much also me).
When you have to die, you will die. Life is not asking you. When someone near to you has to die, they will die. Life again is not asking you. When you have to fall in love, you will fall in love. When you have to fall out of love, you will fall out of love. When a natural disaster has to happen, it will happen. Again life is not asking you. When a child has to be born, it will be born. (We know that even in child birth there are element of unknown despite the advances of medicine sciences and human efforts). Whether it is Birth, Death, Love or any of the existential topics which profoundly affects humanity, we as humans only have a limited influence. There are lot of things which life just does regardless of whether we as humans accept it or not. Life is still going to do it, what it has to. Because life is bigger than us.
We of course can play the individual roles we have assumed in this life to the best of our abilities, but let's not delude ourselves to imagine even for an instance that we are bigger than life. The moment we start harboring that illusion, life will simply smash our illusions and show us its capacity to surprise us, just when we begin to think we know more than life.
Many times we tend to question are past decisions (jobs, relationships etc), and to some extent reflecting on them can be good as it can bring new insights, but also to a large extent realize that when life decides to express itself through us in a certain way, then it will express itself. We can have a mature, well prepared foundation to play our roles well and do our parts well and take the best possible decisions we can, but there will be certain things which will be happening, which are meant to happen, and which will just happen.
We harm ourselves with too much burden of changing the past or obsessing about the future, despite knowing that we are basically gifted and balanced human beings and we are doing the best we can. In fact we want to play god and even change the weather. I think we should look at our delusions and our need to control tendencies about every thing affecting us, with a certain humor and irony. And we should make an effort to lighten up and start flowing like a river listening to what life is telling us and how does it want to express it's beauty through our souls.
I will conclude here with a quote from a psychologist whose spiritual curiosity in his work I have liked and admired.
"The greatest and most important problems of life are all fundamentally insoluble. They can never be solved but only be outgrown." - Carl Jung
