I have not grow up with Christmas tradition. But I have been in Europe for 14 years and I have seen Christmas every year. Here is what I have felt about the spirit of Christmas. Christmas is about Heart Connection, Celebration and Resilience. Resilience because life can be challenging and yet we keep going ahead. Celebration because it reminds us of those moments which are truly beautiful in life. Heart Connection to this planet because that's what our civilization is all about in essence and Christmas underlines this.
As I see (and as some of my readers already know that I bring philosophical and aspects of consciousness in my writings), Every Day Is Christmas. The sentiment of Heart Connection, Celebration and Resilience we can live every day. And perhaps only when we keep this feeling entire year long, do we actually reach the crescendo of Christmas in our hearts. That's why I reiterate : Every Day is Christmas.
I guess some of you have memories of Christmas and lot of baggage and emotions around it. (Some good memories and some not so good memories). I don't have particularly that baggage around Christmas. (Like all humans I have other baggage around other topics, but lets revert to Christmas). So it's easier for me to bring philosophical and slightly more distant view to the spirit of Christmas. But I have felt this for several years and that's why I thought to write this.
I know some of you are fortunate to have your loved ones around you on these days while some of you have lost your loved ones or have difficult memories and emotions and this day can push a few buttons. (Just like I miss some people on some days especially more which can push my buttons where it's not easy). Although It's not easy, We all tend to find our own way through life's dilemmas and challenges as best as we can including the celebration and dilemma's around Christmas.
When it comes to Heart Connection, Celebration and Resilience, I feel that if we can live this feeling totally then we start to embody the spirit of Christmas, with or without others around us. In fact in so many households on the surface there is festivity, but look a little deeper, and you will hardly see any real depth of heart connection, celebration or resilience. If you ask me, that's not Christmas. At least not for me. I don't care about outside packaging when the feeling it embodies is missing. No wonder there are lot of fights and wounds that open up around Christmas time. With so much sugar and sweet emotions outside and yet very little real depth, it can irritate a few humans and perhaps rightly so.
My friend lost someone very close few years ago. We met in December few years ago and he told me he is feeling down, especially Christmas being not easy. I had also faced a deep loss which had stunned me with the incomprehensible pain. So we both met. The conversation that evening was cathartic. That kept me thinking for a long time about Christmas and similar anniversary dates and what it means to each of us as humans, and how we as humans discover our own relationship to some of our pain and wounds and yet find resilience to keep going ahead and believing in spirit of celebration and heart connection despite the hurdles and the storms.
That left me feeling that everyday can be Christmas if we know how to live and embody the essence of Christmas.
Merry Christmas December month to all my readers and friends around the world.
